First of a few armor set concept pieces to come. This is the display presentation of the set trying to convey its mood and a realistic rendering of how the armor would look.

Front/Back orthographic view of this set found here: [link]

Info:

Tools - Originally sketched on paper, rendered in Photoshop CS3
Time - 14-16 hours
Original is 50% larger than the display here.

very nice! but i think you should give him some big ass knee protection just like the shoulders, then it would be perfect:)

Excellent use of texture(which gives the impression of a snakes scales), and the overall serpent motif throughout the armor. Very cool use of colors and lighting. Overall, an awesome concept!

Concept has been modified with some larger scale ornamental detail in the larger areas; also added the sword and gave the image some motion. I decided to leave out the cape for now ^^.

I'd say first off it's a high quality pic with a ton of technical skill to it.

Just a couple of things to say - his left foot may be technically accurate but it comes across as looking too short.

Conceptually it's very similar to the glass/demonic armour from the video game Oblivion, and tying into that is also the feeling that there isn't the recognizable wow factor to it that the greatest designs have. As someone suggested to me once, create a central unifying cool theme and you can build technical detail out from that, but you gotta give the viewer's eyes a chance to rest on something.

You think I should lessen the technical detail or perhaps enhance the size of the features on the armor such as the snake heads on the shoulders and knees?

I think smaller areas of high detail are great, but possibly a simplified, stand-out design for the helm and middle chest. I also think you've got a good idea in making the knees - I think the shoulder detail is great and should probably be kept as is. That's also a great warm colour on the elbows to contrast with the green, maybe bring it out even more.
